• WE THINK THOUGHTS EVERY DAY

BUT WHAT DO THOUGHTS LOOK LIKE?

  • If we could take one of our thoughts and place it in time and space, what would it look like? What material would it have, what colour, what shape? How would it behave?

    INVESTIGATING THE PHYSICS OF THOUGHTS

    AN ARTISTIC RESEARCH JOURNEY

  • Because our minds matter...

Thoughts are the materials we use to build the stories of our lives. To build our realities. Yet, often we can become overwhelmed by our thoughts. We hurt others with our thoughts. We hurt ourselves with our thoughts. It's sometimes like having a superpower but without the proper guidance on how to use it.

My art practice Roomforthoughts began in 1998 with one burning question: ‘What is a thought?’ And its associated sub-questions: How does a thought grow? How does it behave? What are its patterns? How do thoughts trap us? How to navigate inner thought storms?

Understanding the physics of thought became my life's purpose. The list of questions seem endless; What is the power of a repeated thought? How to break through thought programming? How to make a thought stronger?

This grew into an eclectic practice that investigates how thoughts construct mental and physical realities of ourselves and of others...but also investigates how to give visualization to a personal inner thought process that influences our (mental)health. My favourite project is #OriginalThought

Sometimes these question-based projects take me on a thought tangent! An interesting life to live, but also one that has helped me to help others.

  • What people are saying

Thanks very much for this morning. It is still resonating with me, all the thoughts about how my own thoughts are constructed feels like a beautiful gift. Fueled with your prompts, provocations, moments of synthesis and sharing what resonates with you. Very Rich!. You have invented something that gives value to those who want to think about their thoughts, in an extraordinary way."

    HOW TO INVESTIGATE THOUGHTS?

    1

    OBSERVE

Activate and observe thoughts in any manner that feels befitting. Sometimes, focus on a word. Other times an idea. Try to sense what they look like. The colour. Material. Shape. Influence. Behaviour...

    2

    PLAY

Play with thoughts. Using any method. Using image language to express in shape and colour. But also meditation to go on a mind-journey. Catching the tailwind of a thought as it is let go...

    3

    REFLECT

Thoughts can feel like friends. Spending time with them is fun. Think about what thoughts reveal. What they teach. Try to think of a positive and a negative takeaway that improves life...
